G6PD Deficient

Yes, Unfortunately I have G6PD deficiency.

G6PD or Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase deficiency is the most common enzzyme deficiency worldwide. Babies like me with G6PD deficiency have very little or no enzyme called G6PD. This enzyme is especially important to red blood cells. If this enzyme is lacking or missing, red blood cells are easily destroyed.

G6PD Checklist: What must I avoid
1. Antibacterial Drugs
2. Analgesic/Antipyretic drugs
3. Antihelmentic Drugs
4. Sulfonamides and Sulphones
5. Antimalarials
6. Chemicals such a Methylene Blue, Arsine, Phenythydrazine, Toluidine Blue, Trunitrotoluene and Aniline Dyes
7. Food and Drinks such as Fava Beans (Dingdong nuts, Mr. Bean) Red Wine, Legumes (Bitsuelas, garbanzos, kadyos, monggo), Blueberry, Soya Food (tokwa, taho, soysauce), Tonic Water, Bitter Melon and Ampalaya
8. Menthol such as alaxan gel, Ben-gay, Efficascent oil, Listerine mouthwash, megascent oil, Mentopas medicated Plaster and omega pain killer
9. Camptor, Naphthalene Balls, Henna, and herbs such as cattle gallstone bezoar, honeysuckle flower, chimonanathus flower, 100% pearl powder, figworthflower and acalypha indica

  1. just got my baby's newborn screening test and he got positive on G6PD deficiency. ippatest pa nmin dugo nya, natatakot na ako para sa baby ko :(
